JACQUELINE LAMBA DORA MAAR
CELLES QUI AVANCENT
19 sept. - 16 nov. 2024
Celebrating 100 years of Surrealism, Galerie Boquet, in association with Galerie Pauline Pavec, is delighted to present a joint exhibition across both of their spaces, Jacqueline Lamba, Dora Maar, Celles qui avancent, which will highlight the intertwined paths of these two female artists whose friendship spanned the 20th century.

This dual exhibition is part of the "Paris Surréaliste" program, organized by the Comité Professionnel des Galeries d’Art and the Centre Pompidou, in connection with the "Surrealism" exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, running from September 4, 2024, to January 13, 2025.
Illustrated with numerous archives and photographs, the exhibition showcases works ranging from the 1930s to the 1970s, from Surrealism to Abstraction, including some rare and previously never seen pieces by both artists. These include a unique leaflet by Dora Maar featuring a series of portraits of Jacqueline Lamba, major paintings by Lamba, as well as ink landscapes by both artists that reveal striking formal connections between them.
Jacqueline Lamba and Dora Maar met in 1926 at the Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs and continued to be close throughout their lives, especially during crucial moments such as the summer of 1939, when Dora Maar took iconic photographs of Jacqueline Lamba, as well as portraits of Aube Breton as a child.
Accompanied by a catalog featuring texts from the artists' biographers—Victoria Combalia, historian, art critic, professor at the University of Barcelona, PhD in Art History, and exhibition curator for Dora Maar, and Alba Romano Pace, art historian, exhibition curator, and professor at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin for Jacqueline Lamba—this exhibition highlights the significant roles of these two women artists, who were far more than witnesses; they were active participants whose work reveals the major innovations in 20th-century art.

The other part of the exhibition will be on view starting September 12th at Galerie Pauline Pavec, 4 rue de Jarente, 75004 Paris.
