Galerie Boquet and Ambroise Audoin-Rouzeau present 'Dora Maar, Autoportraits', the first exhibition dedicated exclusively to the self-portraits of Dora Maar (1907–1997).

A legendary figure of 20th-century art, Dora Maar is primarily recognized as a photographer and a prominent member of the Surrealist movement.

Yet, from the moment she met Picasso in Paris in 1936, she returned to painting and drawing, exploring portraiture and, most notably, the self-portrait.

Her face is one of the most famous in art history, having been painted and drawn countless times by Pablo Picasso. This exhibition offers an opportunity to reverse the gaze on Dora Maar—showing how this major artist, often portrayed as the "weeping woman" and reduced to the role of a muse, actually perceived and represented herself.

These drawings, some of which were featured in the publication Dora Maar, Secrets d’atelier (Éditions Dilecta, 2023), help bring to light a hitherto unknown facet of Dora Maar’s body of work.
